Rocky V (1990) *

His fortune lost, Rocky is retired, a hesitant father and back in New York, when the opportunity to train and manage a young protege brings him back to the old game.

The return of John G. Avildsen as director signifies that this is an admirable attempt to restore some realism to the saga, but many viewers may feel that too much water has flown in the interim to take easily to the sight of their hero on his uppers again.
A brave try, though it might have been better if fourteen empty years had separated it from the original Rocky, rather than three empty sequels.
