Quattro Mosche Di Velluto Grigio (Four Flies On Grey Velvet) (1971) *

Dario Argento’s third trip to the Giallo well shows definite signs of diminishing returns. Nothing is done badly but the surprises are becoming harder to muster; there’s little here we we haven't seen before, either in the storytelling or the tricks.
It's still essential viewing for Argentophiles, but the casual observer will miss little if they jump this and go straight to the extraordinary Profondo Rosso.
