Carry On Screaming (1966) *

Perhaps only a little stronger than Cowboy but more fondly recalled and much tougher to dislike, this supposed parody of Hammer Horror films, the series' contemporary and rival British lowbrow cultural institution, is really not much like the object of its satire at all, playing far more on the conventions of earlier American horror films. But it looks good, and Fenella Fielding is magnificent as perhaps the best of all those Morticia Addams type characters in which horror comedies habitually abound. Bringing in Harry H Corbett from Steptoe and Son is only a partial success; but they would try the guest star lead strategy again to even more distracting effect in Follow That Camel.
If you don’t like horror films but do like westerns, you can probably reverse the reviews and star ratings for this and Cowboy.
